Five biggest summer transfers in 2018
The summer transfer window has recently been shut closed in entire Europe, and now clubs can concentrate on the season ahead.
A lot of famous faces have switched clubs during the summer, and a lot of money has been spent to make these moves possible.
Here, we take a look at the five biggest transfers from the summer transfer window of 2018:
Cristiano Ronaldo – Transfers Real Madrid to Juventus for £88.5m
The Portugal star once again broke many records with his transfer; this time to Juventus. It’s a testament to the abilities of Ronaldo that he commands this amount of transfer fee at the age of 33. He has been signed to lead the Italian champions to the European glory, and there are a lot of expectations on his shoulders. For Ronaldo, it’s very likely to be the last chapter of his professional career, and he would want to hang up his boots on a high. However, that’s not happening anytime soon as he has signed a four-year deal with the Turin club.
Kepa Arrizabalaga – Transfers Athletic Bilbao to Chelsea for £71.6m
This was a late transfer and it took a lot by surprise. The 23-year-old Spaniard has arrived as a replacement for Thibaut Courtois, who has joined Real Madrid. Arrizabalaga is coming on the back of an impressive season in La Liga, but he has a lot of expectations on his shoulders due to his price tag. Even Chelsea have taken a huge risk by paying so much money for a rather inexperienced keeper.
Alisson Becker – AS Roma to Liverpool for £65m
A lot of money was spent on goalkeepers this summer. Liverpool had been looking for a world-class goalkeeper for quite some time, and it appears that they have found their answer in Alisson. However, they had to spend a huge amount of money to acquire their target. With the arrival of Alisson, it appears that Jurgen Klopp has no weak spot in his starting eleven.
Riyad Mahrez – Leicester City to Manchester City for £60m
This transfer had been dragging for some time. The Algerian finally completed his move to Manchester in a £60m move. He wouldn’t be an automatic starter in Pep Guardiola’s side as he was at Leicester. However, he has a chance to win some more medals this season.
Thomas Lemar – AS Monaco to Atletico Madrid for £52.7m
The Frenchman was heavily linked with Liverpool and Arsenal last summer. His exit from Monaco came this summer eventually as he joined Diego Simeone’s side in a five-year deal. The 22-year-old is one of the most talented players in his age-group, and he has the potential to replace Antoine Griezmann in the future.
